Member for Bayswater, Jackson Taylor will turn the first sod for work to start on a section of Blind Creek in Melbourne’s east which will transform a 600m section of the area into a natural waterway and environmental space for the community to enjoy.

Led by Melbourne Water, this first phase of the project will involve works around the existing pipe and grassy channel near Scoresby Road. Later in the year, construction will commence to reinstate Blind Creek from Manuka Drive to Scoresby Road as a natural waterway.

Member for Bayswater, Jackson Taylor said it was a big day for the project and thanked the community, Melbourne Water, Knox City Council, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and South East Water for helping to make the project happen.

The design includes three key zones – the centrepiece featuring a pedestrian bridge to a second sports ground and paths alongside the creek. The western zone will have additional trees and shrubs planted while the eastern zone will be designed for community gatherings with additional seating and facilities.

With work now underway – the project is expected to be finished early next year, with ongoing revegetation programs to continue through to 2021.

This project aligns with the Andrews Labor Government’s Integrated Water Management Program by providing the community with water, protection from floods, improved interaction with healthy waterways and benefits from cooler, greener cities and healthier environments.
