DOING WHAT MATTERS FOR KNOX

23 May 2023

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with delivering on its election promises for our community – investing in what matters for the people of Knox.

We haven’t wasted a day delivering the services and projects that matter to Victorians. With the Victorian Budget 2023/24, we’re getting on with doing what we said we’d do.

Victorians remember the State Electricity Commission (SEC): it meant a fair deal on your power prices and good, stable jobs for workers.

That’s why we’re bringing it back – to drive down power bills and create thousands of jobs in renewable, government-owned energy.

An initial $1 billion investment in the SEC will help deliver 4.5 gigawatts of power – the equivalent replacement capacity of Loy Yang A – through renewable energy projects.

Bringing back the SEC won’t just mean more renewable energy, lower power bills and reduced carbon emissions – it’ll also help create 59,000 jobs.

As part of a more than $2 billion investment in schools across Victoria, this year’s Budget includes $11 million to upgrade classrooms at Bayswater South Primary School.

Students and teachers at Kent Park Primary School are also set to benefit from this year’s Budget, with the Labor Government delivering $900,0000 for a new oval, running track and playground.

We’ll make sure wherever you choose to send your kids to school, they have access to first-rate facilities – that’s why we’ll keep supporting the low-fee Catholic and independent sector to deliver great local schools.

This Budget includes $3 million towards upgrading St John the Baptist Primary School in Ferntree Gully and $2.1 million towards upgrades at St Joseph's Primary School in Boronia.

Commuters across our area deserve a great public transport network – with modern facilities – to get them where they need to go.

We’ll invest $60 million to revitalise Boronia Station – delivering decking over the southern trail trench and creating new open community space in the heart of Boronia.

This builds on the work of the Boronia Revitalisation Board, which has been funded for another year.

Every Victorian should be able to get the healthcare they need, when they need it, close to home.  That’s why we’re starting early works to redevelop and expand Maroondah Hospital the new Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.

We’re ensuring women and their health are given the focus, funding, and respect they deserve.

A new comprehensive women’s health clinic at Maroondah hospital will change the way women’s health issues are treated, providing care and support for conditions like endometriosis, pelvic pain, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), perimenopause and menopause.

Sport is such a big part of our community, helping families in Bayswater to stay active and get engaged.

In this Budget, we’ll upgrade sporting clubs across Bayswater, giving locals more opportunities to come together while supporting the next generation of sporting greats. This includes:

  • Wally Tew Reserve: $2 million for pavilion upgrades
  • Tormore Reserve: $1.2 million towards a new pavilion including $200,000 towards fit out of the pavilion
  • Templeton Tennis Club: $10,000 to support the club
  • Fairpark Reserve Pavilion: $50,000 to support the fit out of the pavilion

Local families and their four-legged friends will have more places to stretch their legs, as we keep our promise to deliver a new dog park and upgrades to the existing playground at Wantirna Reserve.

Every community deserves great spaces to come together to celebrate and share in culture and tradition.

We promised to build, upgrade and renovate new community infrastructure for the Chinese community and we’re doing just that with $2.5 million to deliver a new Chinese Community Victoria for the Eastern Suburbs in Box Hill.

We’re backing the community organisations that provide care, support and services to help Victorians when they need it the most.

Everyone in Knox knows what a massive contribution these organisations make to supporting locals in need, so we’re delivering $100,000 to support Knox Infolink and $50,000 to support Foothills Community Care.

These are the things that matter – and the things we promised to Victorians.

And with this Budget, we’re getting on with delivering every election commitment we made at the last election.
