Boronia is becoming a better place to live, work and play as key revitalisation projects are completed.
Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor MP today represented Minister for Suburban Development Ros Spence in Boronia to mark the completion of three locally-led projects that will have a positive impact on the local community.
Supported by investments totalling $450,000 from the Victorian Government’s Suburban Revitalisation program, the projects increase the local community’s connection to place, improve safety and visitor access and provide better trading opportunities for businesses.
The Lupton Way Renewal project has improved the safety and amenity of the area, with a new parklet, solar lighting, a raised pedestrian crossing, and better access to Boronia train station.
The Boronia Laneway and Arcade upgrade project introduced creative elements and public art to five main pedestrian pathways, providing a better sense of connection and safety to key areas between Boronia Village, Dorset Square and the train station.
The Major Roads Streetlight Replacement project saw the installation of over 500 LED lights on major roads in central Boronia, upgrading inefficient lighting to address community concerns with safety and amenity after dark, and providing a much more energy efficient solution.
These projects were identified through the Boronia Suburban Revitalisation Board and have been delivered in partnership with Knox City Council.
Mr Taylor also announced the latest round of the Boronia Revitalisation Minor Grants Program, which will support not-for-profit community organisations with grants of up to $5,000 to purchase new or replace inadequate equipment.
Since 2020, the Victorian Government has invested more than $4 million across 23 highly valued Boronia suburban revitalisation projects. These include business facade upgrades, youth mentoring, and the Erica Avenue streetscape renewal.
There are eight Suburban Revitalisation Boards across Melbourne, focused on driving economic and social renewal in Broadmeadows, Boronia, Frankston, Lilydale, Melton, Noble Park, Reservoir and Tarneit. Since 2016, the Suburban Revitalisation program has invested more than $45 million into 218 projects across metropolitan Melbourne.
