The Andrews Labor Government is delivering on its promises and delivering for the people of Bayswater, with major investments in local schools, roads, health and public transport in the Victorian Budget 2019/20.
As part of a massive $1.8 billion investment in schools around the state, this year’s Budget includes$1.39 million to make sure students at Bayswater Primary School have the learning spaces they deserve, removing an older building and delivering a new architecturally-designed permanent modular building.
Students and teachers at Boronia Heights Primary School are also set to benefit from this year’sBudget, with the Labor Government delivering $1.32 million to upgrade the existing lower oval to a synthetic surface.
The Labor Government is determined to make sure our kids are ready for school and set for life, delivering on our commitment to begin the rollout of universal three-year-old kinder.
Thanks to a $882 million Budget investment, we will ensure that every three-year-old has access to at least five hours per week of subsidised kinder by 2022 – increasing to 15 hours per week.
From upgrading the roundabout at the end of your local street to building our state’s biggest transportprojects, this Budget will get you where you need to go, with a massive Suburban Transport Blitz.
We’re fixing the local roads that local people use every day, with a $1.6 million upgrade to theintersection of Bedford Road and Canterbury Road in Heathmont. This includes modifying the left- turn slip lane and service road to reduce the frequency and severity of the crashes, getting locals out of traffic and home to their families sooner and safer.
Because every Victorian should be able to get the care they need when they need it, this year’s Budgetincludes $81.6 million for delivery of a new 120-bed aged care facility which will be constructed at Wantirna Health, including 60 high-care beds and 60 aged care mental health beds. It will complement the existing geriatric medicine hospital and palliative care services already offered at the site, creatinga healthcare hub for older residents in Melbourne’s East.
Delivering on our commitment to create five new dedicated children’s emergency departments, ashare of $5.9 million will kickstart planning on the dedicated new space at Maroondah Hospital, giving local parents peace of mind that their kids will get the calm and compassionate care in the moments that matter most.
The Budget also allocates $4.6 million for planning and early works for the next stage of the Angliss Hospital expansion at Ferntree Gully, which will provide additional hospital beds, upgrade infrastructure and support the re-accommodation of clinical functions.
The Labor Government is making Victoria the basketball capital of Australia, delivering an $83 million investment that will provide facilities from the grassroots to the elite level, by expanding the State Basketball Centre.
The project will deliver 10 new community courts, new training and administration facilities for the Melbourne Boomers and the South East Melbourne Phoenix, a new home for the Australian Basketball Centre of Excellence, and a business case to build the Knox Arena, to bring major sports andentertainment events to Melbourne’s suburbs.
Local families and their four-legged friends will have a new place to stretch their legs, with the Labor Government delivering on its promise with brand-new dog parks in both Knox and Maroondah Local Government Areas as part of a $5 million statewide investment.
We promised to put power back in the hands of Victorians. And through our landmark Solar Homesprogram that’s exactly what we’re doing. This year’s Budget delivers on the Labor Government’spositive plan for solar, investing $1.3 billion, to make sure more Victorians can take control and cut their power bills.
This includes rolling out solar panels, solar hot water or solar batteries to 770,000 homes over the next decade, expanding the program to renters and ensuring the safety and sustainability of the rollout, with funding for training, safety and quality audits.
Students right across the state will have a brighter smile, thanks to the Labor Government’s rollout offree dental care at all public primary and secondary schools.
This year’s Budget begins that rollout, investing $321.9 million and delivering on our promise to bring back dental vans. This investment will save families around $400 a year per child in dental costs, as well as saving parents the inconvenience of taking time off work for appointments.
Once fully rolled out, this initiative will also free up more than 100,000 places in the public dental care system each year.
This is a Budget that delivers for all Victorians.
